USC Aiken 1-4, North Greenville 0-3
India Kornegay dealt her third career no-hitter and the USC Aiken softball team swept a doubleheader from North Greenville Wednesday at J.H. Satcher Field.
Behind Kornegay’s no-hitter the Pacers (8-3-1) earned a 1-0 victory in game one. They then scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to take a dramatic 4-3 victory over North Greenville (1-5) in game two.
Midland Valley 9, Barnwell 6
The Midland Valley High School softball team improved to 2-0 in the season-opening Palmetto Classic played in Graniteville. The Mustangs defeated Barnwell Wednesday behind a strong performance from Morgan Smith. She went 2-for-4 with two doubles and picked up the win in relief after taking over in the pitchers’ circle in the top of the third inning.
Amber Hong also went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles while Carly Clark and Alexis Bates both added a pair of hits to the win. Midland Valley will return to action on Friday when it hosts South Aiken at 7 p.m. as the tournament continues.
North Augusta 11, South Aiken 0
North Augusta improved to 2-0 on the season with the lopsided victory over South Aiken. Meaghan Whitfield (2-0) was the winning pitcher while Sarah Fulmer blasted a home run for the Yellow Jackets, who will play Fox Creek today at 5 p.m. at Midland Valley in another Palmetto Classic contest.
Fox Creek 6, Silver Bluff 2
The Fox Creek baseball team improved to 2-0 in the season-opening Mustang Invitational at Midland Valley High School, defeating Silver Bluff (1-1) Wednesday. Andrew Buist (1-0) gave up one earned run while recording three strikeouts in five innings of work for the Predators. Roby Gillespie had two RBIs for Fox Creek, which will play two tournament games on Saturday, with the first coming against James Island at 10 a.m.
Darius Washington (0-1) took the loss but recorded seven strikeouts in 71/3 innings for the Bulldogs. Three-sport star Jalen Jackson, fresh off his run with the Silver Bluff basketball team, went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs, who will play host to James Island in Petticoat Junction on Friday in another tournament game with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
Silver Bluff was coming off an eight-inning 13-12 win over Dixie on Tuesday. Brandon Parsons (1-0) picked up the win in that game, and six of his teammates had multiple-hit games. Thomas Crumley, Nick Champy and Jordan Lambert had three hits apiece, while Stacy Green, Adam Martin and Dalton Smith contributed all contributed two hits. Green had four RBIs while Martin, Smith and Crumley each knocked in a pair of runs.
