Minnesota 77, No. 1 Indiana 73
MINNEAPOLIS — Trevor Mbakwe had 21 points and 12 rebounds to help Minnesota take down No. 1 Indiana 77-73 on Tuesday night, the seventh time the top-ranked team in The Associated Press’ poll has lost a game this season.
Andre Hollins added 16 points for the Gophers (19-9, 7-8 Big Ten), who outrebounded Cody Zeller and the Hoosiers by a whopping 44-30 and solidified their slipping NCAA Tournament case with an emphatic performance.
Zeller was held to nine points with four turnovers for the Hoosiers (24-4, 12-3).
Xavier 64, No. 19 Memphis 62
CINCINNATI — Brad Redford hit a long 3-pointer that put Xavier (16-11) back ahead after wasting a 13-point lead, and the Musketeers beat No. 19 Memphis, ending the Tigers’ 18-game winning streak.
The Tigers (24-4) scored only 20 points in the first half – their lowest-scoring half of the season – and got dominated on the boards, ending a couple of notable streaks. Their 18-game winning streak was tied with Akron for longest in the nation.
Memphis was the only school that hadn’t lost a road game this season. The Tigers had won 11 straight on the road, the nation’s longest active streak.
Travis Taylor had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Xavier which was missing point guard Dee Davis, who had a head injury against VCU.
