Police: Aiken man had 51 grams of marijuana
Jerome Maurice Dillard, 36, of Union Street, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and was placed in the Aiken County detention enter. He had been released as of press time on Friday.
Officers were at the corner of Richland Avenue and Kershaw Street following up on an unrelated incident when they heard a loud disturbance coming from a home on Kershaw Street, according to a report.
Dillard had reportedly been arguing with two other occupants of the home, the report stated.
When an officer approached Dillard to speak with him, he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from Dillard, according to the report. Dillard said he’d smoked earlier, and while he didn’t have any marijuana on him, he told officers there was some in his vehicle.
An officer investigated the vehicle and saw a bag of marijuana and what appeared to be a set of scales in plain view on the passenger seat, according to the report.
At Public Safety headquarters, tests confirmed that the substance was marijuana, and the entire quantity was about 51.2 grams, according to the report. Dillard also has two prior convictions for marijuana possession.
