The Aiken County Sheriff's Office continues to search for a suspect following a reported home invasion this morning.

Capt. Troy Elwell said 30 units responded within five minutes to Red Tip Lane off Wire Road after the incident was reported at 8:07 a.m.

The homeowner told deputies that she had left her home for a trip to a store earlier. After returning, she was walking up her front steps when a man grabbed her from behind and held a knife on her as he followed inside, police said. The woman told police the man stole her jewelry and told her he would kill her if she came out after him.

A plane and a tracking team are searching for a suspect. The man is described by the homeowner as a black male, 6-feet-tall, wearing a black sweatshirt, a black ski mask and baggy blue jeans.

Red Tip Lane enters into a large trailer park with about 75 trailers, Elwell said. Deputies have yet to locate the suspect or witnesses to the crime.

Elwell said the incident was reported at the time of a shift change at the Sheriff's Office - leading to a quick response to Red Tip Lane, only about two miles away.
