Pacer softball team sweeps King

BRISTOL, Tenn. ‑ The USC Aiken softball team swept a road doubleheader on Monday afternoon against King at the King Softball Complex.

USCA (3-3) obtained a 4-1 win in nine innings over King (2-8) in game one. The Pacers picked up a 5-0 shutout victory over the Tornado in game two.

The Pacers will next stay on the road to face off against Erskine in Due West, on Wednesday, Feb. 20. First pitch of game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.

In game one, Taylor Morgan (2-1) garnered the win in the first game of the doubleheader, striking out 11. She allowed only two hits to the Tornado.

Hannah Light (1-4) suffered the loss in the circle for King in game one. She struck out five Pacers.

India Kornegay claimed her first win of the year in game two. Kornegay (1-2) fanned nine and allowed just two hits.

Morgan White (1-2) took the loss for King in game two. She struck out just one in the game.

USC Aiken Golf team tied for 13th

HILTON HEAD ‑ The nationally third-ranked USC Aiken golf team is tied for 13th after one round of action at the Eighth Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

Two rounds of action were scheduled for Monday, but frost delayed the opening round.

Due to the delay, each of the squads competing in the tournament has approximately five holes left in round two.

USCA is tied with Connecticut for 13th with a team score of 310.

Matt Atkins led the Pacers in the first round of action. Atkins closed out the first round with a 2-over 74. He is tied for 18th.

Mark Dickson is currently in a tie for 56th after carding a 78 in round one. JP Solis and Drew McElveen are both tied for 61st with opening round scores of 79.

USCA’s Kyle Godsman finished the first round with an 83 to sit tied for 84th.

Tournament host Francis Marion is currently in the lead. The Patriots posted an opening round team score of 291.
