The fifth annual Aiken City Cup Corporate Fitness Challenge will take place this spring, and businesses are encouraged to participate in what many consider to be a field day for adults.
The event, organized by the City of Aiken, promotes fitness and teamwork through a variety of games and competitions held during the late afternoons of May 14 through May 16 at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center.
Last year, UPS won the cup, ending URS Safety Management Solutions' three-year winning streak.
Recreation Program Supervisor Jessica Campbell said it's an event that has been growing over the years.
More games have been added for participants to enjoy, including cornhole and ladder ball, which are new to this year's schedule.
Other games or competitions include horseshoes, basketball, tennis, volleyball, table tennis, a 2-mile run, walking, disc golf, free throw, tug of war, three-legged race, sack race, relay race, boccie ball, racquetball, shuffle board and pickleball.
“We're continuing to offer our program that focuses on health and wellness, and, of course, we encourage some friendly competition between local businesses,” Campbell said.
Campbell said the competition is also a great opportunity to build relationships with co-workers and others from outside the office.
The event falls on National Employee Health and Fitness Day on May 15, which was established by the National Association for Health and Fitness. This day encourages physical activity and promotes the benefits of a healthy lifestyle for both business owners and their employees.
Registration forms and entry fees of $150 per company will be accepted until April 14.
