Taxes

To the poor, poor soul who thinks he/she shouldn’t have to pay taxes for the “kids they don’t have.” Um, hello, your future is in the hands of those “kid’s you don’t have.” Also, your TalkBack suggested that, not only do you not have kids in school, but it also said that you have never used the education system, so why should you pay taxes for it? I find it really sad that you never went to school either. I am not on welfare and work for a living, so I think that paying for that should change, too.

Immigration

The new proposed outline for immigration reform is discriminatory. Only lawyers, engineers and professionals will go to the front of the list. We have an abundance of these people now where they can’t find jobs. This is not fair to the 11 million illegals in the United States today.

Guns

A recent letter to the editor stated, “The right to own a gun is a God-given right.” I would like to know where in the Bible this is stated, especially in light of God’s commandment, “Thou shalt not kill,” as well as the fact that guns did not exist when the Bible was written.

There will be a “smart choice” march on Washington, D.C., on Feb. 29 to promote the anti-gun agenda. Let’s show Washington that the smart choice is the choice to ban guns.

Healthy choices

I would like to urge local restaurants and grocery stores to please provide more healthy choices for consumers. Many people would like to have low-fat, low-carb or low-sodium choices, but in most places these are lacking. Also, in bakeries and in grocery store delis, there are few to no choices in whole grain products, like muffins. Ice cream shops need to carry sugar-free choices. All restaurants should have light dressings. Please help citizens eat in a healthier way by recognizing that high-fat and high-sodium food is unhealthy.
