Sponsored by the Small Business and Rural Development Division of the S.C. Department of Commerce, the Rural Summit Photography Contest is part of the annual South Carolina Rural Summit conference, which will be held in Aiken on March 4. The contest is open to the public, and entries should reflect the unique features of rural life in the Palmetto State. Fifteen finalist photos will be chosen by S.C. Department of Commerce staff and displayed at the Rural Summit. Attendees of the Rural Summit will vote, and the winning photo will be announced at the end of the program on March 4. Photographs must be original work of the applicant and feature rural South Carolina subject matter. Photos may be color or black-and-white, and should be submitted as an 8-inch by 10-inch image with name of photo, name of photographer, and completed registration and release forms, which are located on the Commerce website at this link: Rural Summit Photo Contest. PalmettoPride presentation of “Litter Trashes Everyone” puppet show, performed by the Columbia Marionette Theatre, will be in Clearwater today at 9 a.m. and in Gloverville at 1 p.m. This show is one of the many educational programs offered by PalmettoPride to engage students in helping keep our state clean and how they can be part of the solution. This show is about 20 minutes, featuring marionettes and hand puppets to convey the message that every citizen has a responsibility to help keep South Carolina beautiful. The Lloyd Kennedy Charter School and Aiken Performing Arts Academy present the second Jazz Night today in the campus auditorium from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person. An Italian-themed dinner will be served with beverages and dessert. Students, accompanied by musician Randy Brooks, will perform live contemporary, jazz and gospel music. If you are a not-for-profit, human health and welfare agency, and a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization as determined by the Internal Revenue Service, you may be eligible to participate in the 2013 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The Combined Federal Campaign is conducted once a year within each federal agency in the CSRA. The application period is from today through March 15, and cannot be extended.
