A second man at the scene, who had a strong odor of alcohol on him and exhibited signs of intoxication, was also charged with disorderly conduct.
Woman may have foiled vehicle break-in
A woman apparently foiled a vehicle break-in when she came upon her car while the suspect was inside of it, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
According to a report, a witness was outside the Dollar Tree on South Aiken Lane about 10:45 p.m. on Thursday when she saw a new Ford F-150 parked in a handicapped spot. She saw two men in the truck talking and a passenger got out and walked on the sidewalk in front of her.
The suspect was described as a white male between 35 and 40 years old, with light brown hair long enough to be visible past a black skull cap. He was wearing blue jeans and a military-style camouflage jacket, according to the report. He walked slow, and the F-150 “followed his lead” in the parking lot as he made his way past Dollar Tree.
The witness felt nervous and went inside to get a male employee, according to the report. While she was getting an employee, the victim walked out with the bank deposit, apparently unaware of the suspicious man.
As the victim approached her vehicle, she noticed the dome light was on, according to the report. The suspect told her to “come here,” then reached for her purse containing the bank deposit.
The man tripped over the curb and fell flat on the ground, and the victim ran inside, according to the report. The suspect got up and ran, then got into the truck, which was last seen driving past Gold’s Gym.
The victim realized the suspect had gone through her purse and dumped it out on the seat of the vehicle. Nothing was missing, and the victim reported all of her money was still inside.
Officers said it appeared the suspect was startled by the victim.
