The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating a Wednesday night shooting that left a man hospitalized.

The shooting happened about 10:30 p.m. at Colleton Court Apartments on the 1600 block of Colleton Avenue, according to a report. Officers found 35-year-old Anthony Oakman, of Colleton Avenue, lying face down on a curb in front of the apartments with a gunshot wound to the head.

Oakman was transported to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he remained on Thursday, according to Sgt. Jake Mahoney. No arrests had been made as of press time on Thursday. Mahoney said investigators were developing leads throughout the day.

“There was a dispute between two individuals,” he said. “The victim was approached by the unidentified suspect. There was an altercation between the two. The victim was shot by the suspect.”

A weapon was not recovered from the scene; however, investigators found three bullet shell casings.

“There were witnesses to the crime that have been interviewed by Public Safety officers,” Mahoney said.
