The South Aiken High School boys’ basketball team suffered a hard-fought loss in overtime Tuesday, falling to White Knoll in a game that eliminated the Thoroughbreds from playoff contention.


Jordan Scott led South Aiken 6-13, 2-7 Region 5-AAAA) with 12 points while teammates Jordan Dingle and Austin Kyles both added 11 for the team that will close out the season by playing host to arch-rival Aiken High on Thursday.

Every Strom Thurmond player to take the floor Tuesday scored in a lopsided win over Gilbert. Jasergio Kennion led the way with 13 points for the Rebels (18-6, 8-1 Region 5-AAA) who will play for the region crown at Midland Valley on Thursday.

The Silver Bluff boys got off the schnied with a solid win over Region 5-AA rival Gilbert, locking the Bulldogs (11-10, 6-4) into third place in the region. Jaylen Lawrence scored a team-best 20 points while both Nick Cummings and Donte Wright scored 10 apiece. Brian Hickson added nine points for the team likely to open the playoffs Feb. 13 at Battery Creek.

Wagener-Salley 63


The Wagener-Salley boys lost on Tuesday, but remain in second place in Region 4-A. The War Eagles 13-9, 7-4) were led by Malcolm Stroman’s 17 points, while teammates Kiiyan Miller (12), RJ Tyler (11) and Justin Gray (10) all scored in double figures for the team that will close the regular season at Ridge Spring-Monetta on Thursday.

Five Ridge Spring-Monetta players scored in double figures as the Trojans (10-12, 6-5 Region 4-A) routed North. Alonzo Smith led the way with 22 points, while both Mike Jones and Desmond Brown contributed 17 apiece. Travious Wigfall and Rafael Leaphart rounded out the leading scorers with 13 points apiece for RS-M, which is in third place in the region and will face Wagener-Salley on Thursday.

Tancey Richardson scored 25 points in Kennedy’s win over New Ellenton (8-5) in the championship tournament. Kennedy (13-1) will play North Augusta on Thursday at Paul Knox for the County Championship at 6:30 p.m.

The South Aiken girls improved to 8-7 in Region 5-AAAA contests following a win over White Knoll. Kyasia Youmans 16 points for the Thoroughbreds, who will wrap up the regular season on Thursday at home against Aiken.

The Strom Thurmond girls clinched second place in Region 5-AAA with a win over Gilbert. Shay Widener scored a team-best 14 points for the Rebels, who will wrap up the regular season at Midland Valley on Thursday.

Silver Bluff beat Barnwell to force a tie for first place in Region 5-AA with Wade Hampton. The teams will play a region title game at Barnwell on Thursday. In Tuesday’s win, Ashanti Brown led the way for the Bulldogs (14-6, 8-2) with 19 points, while Kippen Wallace added 10 more.

Fox Creek clinched second place in Region 4-A with the win over Blackville-Hilda. Kiana Green led the way with 15 points, while Dominique Moore added 13 for the Predators (10-10, 8-3) who will close the regular season at home against Williston-Elko on Thursday.


North Augusta MS 34

The North Augusta Middle School girls advanced to the tournament championship with an overtime win against Aiken. JaNaya Parker led North Augusta with 15 points while Demetria Hart added nine. North Augusta will play Schofield for the championship at Paul Knox on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Aiken Tech improved to 9-11 on the season, 3-2 in Region 10, with a win over Clinton Junior College. Keith Crump scored a team-best 17 points while Maurice Strong contributed 16 and Jonathan Bradley added 10 more. The Knights’ next game is at home on Saturday against Cape Fear.
