A Johnston man was detained for indecent exposure after he was seen masturbating at a computer in an employment office last week, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Willie Merriweather, 53, of Academy Street, was charged with two counts of indecent exposure and placed in the Aiken County detention center, where he remained on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened about 4:40 p.m. on Thursday at S.C. Works on Richland Avenue, according to a Public Safety report.

One of the female witnesses said she was assisting a customer “when a man kept trying to talk to her, saying that he knew her,” according to the report.

“She turned to him to tell him they don’t know each other, and she saw that he was masturbating with his genitalis completely exposed,” the report stated.

The female employee and a second employee notified a supervisor, police said.

The suspect ran out of the building when the supervisor went to locate him.

Merriweather comes in “quite often and will only deal with female employees,” one of the employees said to officers.

She said that it’s not uncommon for Merriweather to flirt with employees.
