An Aiken woman reported on Saturday that a man snatched her purse from a shopping cart while she was loading items into her vehicle outside a store on Whiskey Road. The purse was later recovered at a restaurant with all of its contents except for some cash.A 34-year-old man from Martinez, Ga., was detained for driving under the influence on Saturday after officers pulled him over on Richland Avenue for drifting in and out of his lane. He failed multiple field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Aiken Public Safety officers investigated a report of shots fired on Alfred Street on Friday. Officers could not find any evidence to substantiate the call. An Aiken man reported that someone took his wife’s purse from their vehicle on Friday. The man reportedly left the vehicle unattended at the emergency entrance of Aiken Regional Medical Centers while he checked his wife into the emergency room. An unknown man entered Walmart on Whiskey Road on Friday, selected about $500 in merchandise and put the items into some Walmart bags, then placed the bags into a cart and tried to exit the store. When a loss-prevention officer tried to stop the man, he abandoned the cart and ran from the store. A 15-year-old Aiken High School student was detained for simple possession of marijuana on Friday after someone reported seeing him with a quantity of the drug. He consented to a search, during which an officer found two bags of a green, leafy substance in his jacket. A Wagener woman reported on Friday that someone took funds out of her checking account without her knowing. Stolen vehicles were reported on White Pond Road in Williston on Friday, and on Pelzer Street in Langley and Old Tory Trail Road in Aiken on Sunday. A 25-year-old Aiken man was detained for driving under the influence after deputies conducted a traffic stop on East Pine Log Road on Monday. The man was reportedly driving with his headlights off and exhibited signs of intoxication. Burglaries were reported to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office on Community Drive in Aiken, Springflower Road and Daytona Road in Wagener, and on Harrison Road, Hill and Dell Drive and Old Apache Lane in Warrenville. Vehicle break-ins were reported on Jones Circle in Warrenville and Seminole Drive in North Augusta. A shoplifting was reported at Dollar General in Graniteville on Saturday. An unknown man reportedly paid for some items, then put three plastic chairs in the back of his pickup and left the store without paying for the chairs.
