Lifeguard courses to be offered at USCA

Area residents will have the opportunity to learn lifesaving skills during the next several months. Health and Safety Solutions will offer a series of lifeguard courses at the USC Aiken Natatorium and Wellness Center in February, March and April.

Participants who complete a lifeguard course successfully will receive a two-year American Red Cross certificate for lifeguarding, first aid, CPR and automated external defibrillator use, said Kevin White, president and primary instructor for Health and Safety Solutions. They also will receive a one-year American Red Cross bloodborne pathogens certificate.

The classes are scheduled for Saturday through Feb. 8, Feb. 16 to 24, March 23 to 26, March 23 to 29, March 30 to April 5 and April 6 to 12. A lifeguard certification renewal course will be offered Feb. 9 and 10.

The cost for a lifeguard course is $225. The lifeguard certification renewal course costs $175.
