Sertomans from around South Carolina came together on Jan. 26 to plan the fifth annual Camp Sertoma Golf Tournament to be held at the Woodside Plantation Country Club on June 17.

Proceeds from the tournament are used to send 240 disadvantaged or hearing and speech impaired children to Camp Sertoma for a unique summer camp experience. Every year since 1975, children ages 7 to 13 have been given the opportunity to attend the camp for a week of fun, skills development and education.

Camp Sertoma, located at the outdoor laboratory on the Clemson University Campus, is a fully accredited and expertly staffed summer camp.

With a camper-to-counselor ratio of eight to two, these kids are encouraged to do things for themselves, from personal and housekeeping chores to cooking a simple meal.

Under the supervision of trained counselors, the campers engage in such activities as nature hikes, archery, sailing, campfires, cookouts, fishing, boat rides, instructional swims, overnight camping trips, recreational games, skits, sports, singing and arts and crafts.

Sponsorships for the Camp Sertoma Golf Tournament are available at the $500, $750 and $1,000 dollar level, each to include a four player team. Additional sponsorships are available for $100 to $250.

The player’s entrance fee is $300 for a team of four players, or $75 per player. Registration must be made by June 10.

The game format will be a four-player Captain’s Choice. The tournament will offer contests and prizes including, door prizes, putting contest and closest to the pine contests.

Lunch will be provided by Chick-fil-A. Snacks and beverages will be provided on the golf course. Following play, a full steak dinner will be served.
