The Silver Bluff boys basketball team trailed by 18 points at the start of the fourth quarter in Tuesday’s Region 5-AA showdown with Edisto. The Bulldogs waged a furious rally and even had a shot to tie the scored in the game’s closing moments, but couldn’t connect in a 59-56 loss.


Donte Wright led Silver Bluff (10-9, 5-3) with 17 points. Gyasi Yeldell had 11 and Brian Hickson added nine more for the Bulldogs, who will return to action on Friday at home against Calhoun County.


Lexington 65


South Aiken 48


In spite of a 22-point effort from Jordan Dingle, the South Aiken High School boys lost to Lexington. The Thoroughbreds (6-12, 2-5 Region 5-AAAA) will return to action on Friday at North Augusta while the Wildcats will play host to Aiken in a battle for first place in the region.


North Augusta 69


White Knoll 56


The North Augusta High School boys posted an impressive win on the road, knocking off White Knoll. Tavarez Hall scored a game-best 14 points for the Yellow Jackets (14-6, 4-3 Region 5-AAAA), while teammates Chandler Harrison and Malik Dunbar added 13 points apiece to the win. North Augusta will play host to South Aiken on Friday.


Midland Valley 72


Swansea 53


Midland Valley High School improved to 6-1 in Region 5-AAA, 15-7 overall, with a lopsided win over Swansea. Daniel Carr led the way for the Mustangs with 18 points. Jaquan Hall added another 16 and Javoddis Coach contributed 13 for the Midland Valley cause.


The Mustangs will play host to Brookland-Cayce on Friday.


Hillcrest MS 43


Mead Hall 33


Mead Hall closed its regular season with a loss to rival Hillcrest of Augusta. Ben Gilligan led the Panthers with 18 points.


Kennedy MS 52


AL Corbett 28


Tancey Richardson scored 20 points for the Kennedy Middle School boys on Monday in a win over AL Corbett. The next game for Kennedy (12-1) is next week in Aiken County Tournament at Paul Knox.

Silver Bluff 48

Led by Kippen Wallace’s game-high 16 points, the Silver Bluff girls cruised to a win over Edisto. Ashanti Brown had 12 points and Roxanna Cheek added 10 more for the Bulldogs (13-5, 7-1 Region 5-AA), who will play host to Calhoun County on Friday.

Alexis Bates scored a team-best 17 points for Midland Valley (6-13, 3-4 Region 5-AAA) in a big win over Swansea. The Mustangs will return to action on Friday when they host Brookland-Cayce.


Ridge Spring-Monetta 30


Fox Creek 28


The Ridge Spring-Monetta High School girls clinched the Region 4-A title with Tuesday’s win over Fox Creek. Ebony Hines led the Trojans (15-5, 9-0) with seven points while Ashley Perry contributed five points and 13 rebounds. RS-M will play next at Williston-Elko on Friday, while the Predators (9-10, 7-3) won’t play again until Feb. 5, when they’ll host Blackville-Hilda.


Dutch Fork JV 42

The Aiken High junior varsity girls lost to Dutch Fork, 42-22. Tyeshia McKevie scored 13 points for the Hornets (8-4).


Mead Hall MS 23


Hillcrest 21


Mead Hall won a close contest against Hillcrest of Augusta to finish its regular season undefeated. Faith Kneece led Mead Hall with 14 points. The Lady Panthers, who overcame a four-point halftime deficit, are the top seed in the league tournament hosted by Curtis Baptist in Augusta beginning Thursday.


AL Corbett MS 30

The AL Corbett Middle School girls (4-6) knocked off Kennedy behind Ta’nauziah Corley’s game-high 17 points.
