Man riding motorcycle dead following crash on Hwy. 1

An Augusta man riding a motorcycle was killed Tuesday evening after a wreck on Aiken-Augusta Highway.

Berry Playford, 51 of Parkway Drive in Augusta was pronounced dead at Georgia Health Sciences University, according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

The crash happened at about 6:40 p.m. when a Hephzibah man driving a Dodge Charger on Old Aiken Road ran a stoplight and hit the motorcycle on Hwy. 1, just outside of the North Augusta city limits in Aiken County, Carlton said.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and toxicology is pending, Carlton said.
