A dominant performance made Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm’s Joyful Victory a four-time stakes winner Saturday night as she scored a 4 1/4-length win in commanding fashion in the 1 1/16-mile $400,00 Houston Ladies Classic Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park. Tim and Cary Frommer broke and trained Joyful Victory.
The 5-year-old Ontario-bred daughter of Grade 1 winner Tapit was much the best in her return after a 65-day layoff, and showed no signs of rust, breaking sharply, going to the front early, setting the pace, and would authoritatively draw off entering the stretch to win decisively with jockey Rosie Napravnik in the irons. It was the eighth consecutive race that the Larry Jones charge has hit the board, and all four of her stakes victories have come at the 1 1/16-mile distance.
The mare has won stakes at ages three, four and five, and has never run worse than fifth in 16 career starts.
The consistent mare has 5 wins, 5 seconds and 3 thirds, and increased her lifetime earnings to $910,679.
All In Stable’s and Lael Stable’s Willcox Inn placed third in the 1 1/8-mile Grade 3 John B. Connally Turf Cup Stakes Saturday night at Sam Houston Race Park. The 5-year-old son of Harlan’s Holiday increased his lifetime earnings to $689,443.
