Talbert finishes first at Carolinas-Georgia Junior Championship

The fifth annual Carolinas-Georgia Junior Championship was recently held at Mount Vintage Golf Club in North Augusta. Strom Thurmond High School senior and Clemson signee McKenzie Talbert was the winner in the girls division. Talbert, a three-time individual state champion, carded 73-74–147 in the 36-hole event to take the medalist honors, topping runner-up Louise Oxner by two strokes.

A pair of South Aiken High School golfers competed in the boys draw. Thoroughbred teammates Ryan Carpenter and Hayden Ploeger represented the Carolina team – composed of players from North and South Carolina in a competition against Georgia junior golfers. Carpenter, signed to play at College of Charleston, finished tied for 28th, after rounds of 78 and 77. Ploeger, who’s signed to play college golf for Presbyterian, shot 84-84–168.

Trace Crowe, of Easley, shot back-to-back rounds of 70 to win the boys division. Crowe finished well ahead of Carson young and Austin Langdale – the top two ranked junior boys in the Palmetto State, who are teammates at Pendleton High School and have both committed to Clemson. They were part of the winning team in last year’s Southern Cross Golf Tournament at Palmetto Golf Club.
