Acts of random kindness
You never know when the love of God will be used through someone to bless your day. On Jan. 13, a very special act of random kindness was given to my family and me.
We were heading to Arby’s lunch. We needed something to eat in the car as our baby had just fallen asleep. As we approached Arby’s, we could barely get in the parking lot because of two large SCE&G trucks by the side entrance. Apparently the power was out and Arby’s was closed. As we headed to another fast food restaurant, our son awoke; we decided to go to Cracker Barrel to have their limited time Cinnamon French Toast. To our disappointment, the “limited time” was more limited than we thought. We were feeling a little unlucky. About halfway through our lunch, the waitress informed us that we did not owe anything on our bill. She said someone paid for us and handed us a card that read, “Please accept this act of random kindness in memory of Austin Allen.”
As I took a moment to reflect on this generous act, I remembered reading about Austin in the paper a year ago. I then felt blessed to be apart of his ongoing memory through this act. I was reminded of one of my favorite quotes by Morgan Freeman. He was acting the part of God in the movie Evan Almighty. He said: “If you want to change the world, do it with one act of random kindness at a time.” I am thankful to the person who remembered Austin with this simple act of random kindness. God used you to bless us on this day. May God bless you all the more.
