If you don’t have plans for the holiday today, Pizza Hut on Whiskey Road will be hosting a fundraiser for the South Carolina chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The event will last the entire day at the Whiskey Road location, which is open today from 11 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., according to Paula Krause of Aiken, who is coordinating the event.
If you place your order online, enter “CFF” in the section for promotional codes and that will donate 20 percent of your purchase to the foundation, Krause said.
If you plan to dine in, carry out or have your order delivered, you will need a fundraiser voucher from Krause, who will be at the restaurant today beginning at 5:30 p.m. You can also call Krause at 645-6734 and ask for a voucher.
Krause said she originally planned to have the event from 5 to 8 p.m., but the foundation’s office in Atlanta decided to run it the entire day.
Krause is also coordinating the second Cystic Fibrosis Walk, which will be held May 18 at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center. Last year’s inaugural event was held at Aiken State Park and raised about $450.
Krause said she was motivated to raise money and awareness of cystic fibrosis by her 11-year-old nephew, Xavier Young, who has the disease.
“It’s not recognized as much as heart disease or cancer or cerebral palsy,” she said. “It’s not a rare disease, but it is inherited. Cystic fibrosis causes the body to produce abnormally thick and sticky fluid called mucus that builds up in creating passages of the lungs and in the pancreas.
Krause said to be on the lookout for other fundraisers, and for more information on the walk as it approaches.
