Dogwood Stable’s Palace Malice is the 8/5 morning line favorite in the field of eight entries contesting a 7-furlong allowance race Saturday at Gulfstream Park. The son of the two-time Horse of the Year Curlin, is out of the stakes winning Royal Anthem mare Palace Rumor.

Palace Malice was purchased by Dogwood Stable at the 2012 Keeneland April 2-year-olds in Training Sale from the consignment of Niall Brennan for $200,000. The three-year-old was trained in Aiken by Legacy Stable’s Brad Stauffer and Ron Stevens.

An impressive winner in his last start, Palace Malice broke his maiden easily last summer winning a 6 1/2-furlong race by 3 1/2-lengths at Saratoga on Aug. 4.

The bay colt will be making his sophomore campaign debut, and he’s conditioned at the racetrack by five-time Eclipse Award winning Trainer Todd Pletcher. Jockey Javier Castellano, who has ridden Palace Malice in his two previous starts, gets the return call on Saturday.

Palace Malice last worked on Jan. 13 at Palm Meadows Training Center in Boynton Beach, Fla, breezing five-furlongs in 1:01 2/5 seconds. Palace Malice has one win and one second in two lifetime starts, and has bankrolled $62,000.
