I just want to thank a special lady who was my angel this afternoon. While standing in line to pay for my groceries at Bi-Lo, I was told my account had insufficient funds. Upon seeing my distress, Susan Butler, who was behind me in line, graciously paid me for my groceries without a second thought. What a beautiful and selfless thing to do. Your kindness was so unexpected but so greatly appreciated. God bless Susan Butler and her family. I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart. Because of you, my family was able to have a good dinner. I look forward to the day when I can do the same for someone else.
Laurens Street bridge
When you drive over the Laurens Street bridge, picture an Aiken-themed mural on both sides. Paint could be donated, and Aiken is full of artists and ideas. Turn a plain Jane bridge into another Aiken attraction.
The bridge is just fine like it is. If you want to beautify Aiken, fix the terrible Park Avenue road. I have to avoid that street so I don’t ruin my tires.
The bridge is nice. My concern is all those holes in the roads in the county. Never seen it so bad. My truck won’t last much longer with roads like that. Please fill in the holes.
In response to a question in Talk Back about an article that included the letters LGBTQ but did not explain what they stood for, the answer is “Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer.” In conjunction with that organization is PFLAG, which stands for Parents and Friends of Lesbians And Gay persons. There is a local chapter here in Aiken which meets for support and information on the fourth Thursday of every month at the Aiken Unitarian Universalists Church at 115 Gregg Ave. As a parent, I can confirm that I have found the group very informative and supportive. The group also has a Facebook page: PFLAG AIKEN.
News flash: The Second Amendment was not written to protect the people from the government. It was written so the president could call up a citizen army (militia) capable of fighting in case our country was attacked. We had no standing army at the time. The president is the commander-in-chief of all militias. Read the Constitution. Once we had a standing army, the Second Amendment should have been repealed, freeing the states to implement their own gun control laws.
I live in downtown Aiken, so why did I not receive a reverse 911 call on my land line? Most of my neighbors did, but not all. What’s up with that?
