The CSRA New Horizons Band will have its first meeting of the spring semester at 5 p.m. today in the band rehearsal room at the Etherredge Center at USCA, 471 University Parkway. The public is invited.
The Birds & Butterflies Nature Series today is sold out, so another seminar is planned for 7 p.m. on Thursday. The topic is “Identifying Backyard Birds” and includes tips to help identify more than 60 species of birds in our area. Space is limited, so reservations are required by calling 649-7999. There is a $5 charge for each seminar or field trip when the reservation is made. Children 16 and younger are free. The Beech Island Historical Society will meet today at 7:30 p.m. at the society’s History & Visitors Center located at 144 Old Jackson Highway in Beech Island. The Talatha Rural Community Water District Board of Commissioner’s monthly meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at the district office. Auditions for Aiken’s County-wide boys choir “Bound to Sing” will be held today and Jan. 22 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the choir room at Aiken’s First Baptist Church. They are looking for boys in fourth to sixth grades with unchanged voices. Nothing is required to be brought. Rehearsals for their spring concert will begin on Jan. 29 and continue every Tuesday afternoon from 3:50 to 5:15 p.m. until May. The Aiken County Public Library, located at 314 Chesterfield St. SW, will have Storytime Wednesdays for ages two and younger from 10:15 to 10:35 a.m., for ages two to three from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and ages 4 to 5 from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
The Shepeard Community Blood Center will have a blood drive at USC Aiken, located at 471 University Parkway, Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
USC Aiken and Aiken Technical College will present the 2013 Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the USC Aiken Etherredge Center lobby, 471 University Parkway. The special guest speaker is Demetrius McCoy, a youth pastor and rising community leader. During the ceremony, the “Legacy of the King” award will be given to a student who has encompassed King’s aspirations.
