Six hour standoff leads to arrest

Aiken Public Safety has made an arrest after a standoff that lasted for six hours this morning.

John Callahan, 52, of Aiken has been charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits.

Aiken Public Safety officers responded to the 400 block of Williamsburg Street after getting a call about shots fired. Responding offers encountered a man who fled back into his home. A perimeter was established and negotiations began, according to Public Safety.

Assistance was received by the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division.

No injuries were reported.
