Aiken Department of Public Safety officers made an arrest early Saturday morning after a six-hour standoff.
John Callahan, 52, of Aiken, was charged with discharging a firearm within the city limits, according to ADPS Cpl. 1st Class Jeremy Hembree.
At approximately 1:15 a.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired around the 400 block of Williamsburg Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a man who immediately fled back into his residence.
At that moment, responding officers decided not to rush the situation, and the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division responded to assist Aiken police.
“We wanted to make sure everyone was safe,” Hembree said.
A perimeter was established and negotiations began, Hembree said. After about six hours, entry was made into the residence and the man was apprehended without further incident.
No injuries were reported during the shooting, which was said to be at random, or during the standoff.
