Less than a week after an armed robbery occurred at an Aiken Waffle House, the restaurant was hit again by a man brandishing a knife.

This time, he didn’t leave with any cash.

The Waffle House located on Frontage Road reported that a man with a knife walked in on Friday at 3:55 p.m. and demanded that the employees go to the back of the restaurant. Before the assailant could get behind the counter to gain access the cash registers, one of the employees grabbed a knife and rushed toward him, according to a sheriff’s report.

The subject, described as a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, fled the scene.

No injuries were reported.

Only four days before, on New Year’s Eve, a man came into the same restaurant that afternoon with a knife and went straight for the cash register. He said that he had a gun, but no witnesses saw a firearm, according to reports. The assailant left with an entire register drawer around 2:40 p.m. before deputies arrived.

The subject was described as a black male wearing a black hoodie, sunglasses, a dark bandanna and purple gloves. No arrests have been made in that incident.

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Troy Elwell said that investigators believe “the possibility is very high” that the two crimes are related, but it’s all speculation at this point.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about either incidence is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 1-800-922-9709 or CrimeStoppers of the Midlands at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Callers can remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward between $50 and $1,000.
