Reconsider paid lost and found ads

We adopted a small female terrier that was rescued from a puppy mill in Edgefield County. We only had her about a week when she slipped out a door unnoticed and disappeared. This was about Nov. 12. Since then, we have been advertising in the papers to try and find her and she has been sighted several times, the latest being Dec. 18. Unlike The Augusta Chronicle, the Aiken Standard charges for these ads.

In view of what it could mean to a helpless animal, especially ones recently rescued, we feel that Aiken Standard needs to rethink their policy and run these ads for free. So far our advertising costs with the Standard have totaled about $100. Most people would not have spent this kind of money this time of year meaning a bunch of animals lost in Aiken have not had a decent chance of being found.
