Aiken man dead after New Year's Eve shooting

An Aiken man died this morning following a Monday evening shooting.

Joseph Brown, 22, died at Georgia Health Sciences University at 4 a.m., according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

According to Sgt. Jake Mahoney with the Aiken Department of Public Safety, investigators responded to a call of a shooting about 9:30 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of Fairfield Street.

Carlton said Brown was pronounced dead this morning after receiving multiple gunshot wounds.

No suspect or motive for the shooting has been identified, Mahoney said.

Anyone with information related to the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIMESC. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward up to $1000.

Brown is scheduled for an autopsy Wednesday in Newberry.
