Justice Racing Stable’s Horned Frog ended his sophomore campaign on a victorious note as he scored his second consecutive victory, winning a 1-mile and 70-yard starter optional claiming race on Dec. 27 at the Fair Grounds by daylight, capturing the contest by 6 1/4-lengths. Horned Frog was broken and trained in Aiken by Legacy Stable’s Brad Stauffer and Ron Stevens.
The 3-year-old gelded son of Master Command was ridden to victory by Rosie Napravnik, and is conditioned by Mike Maker. It was Horned Frog’s 4th victory in 2012. Horned Frog also found the winner’s circle at Churchill Downs on Nov. 22, scoring a convincing 3 3/4-length victory in a 1 1/8-mile race with jockey Victor Lebron in the irons.
Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s stakes winner Brother Bird placed second in a 1 1/16-mile starter allowance race on Dec. 21 at Gulfstream Park. Brother Bird, a half-brother to Grade 1 winners Mine That Bird and Dullahan, was consigned by Cary Frommer to the 2009 Fasig-Tipton May Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, where he was sold for $485,000. Brother Bird was trained at the Aiken Training Track by Legacy Stable’s Brad Stauffer and Ron Stevens.
