The Fourth Annual FOTAS Hunter Pace will be held on Jan. 5 at Three Runs Plantation. About 110 riders participated in last year’s event, and it’s expected there will be a least that many for this year’s event, if not more, said FOTAS member Mary Lou Welch. The hunter pace will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“There are beautiful trails,” said Welch. “There will be two courses, first flight, and the hilltoppers will go at a slower pace for the second flight. The trails go down by the creek. It’s really pretty. There are jumps and go arounds for those who don’t wish to jump.”

Lunch will be included for those participating in the hunter pace, and for those who would like a day out in the country while getting the chance to relax in the Three Runs Plantation clubhouse. Lunch is $15 per person, and will be catered by The Red Pepper. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“It’s a good fundraiser for FOTAS,” said Welch. “All the proceeds will be going to FOTAS. The luncheon is to honor the adoption, foster families and pets. It’s another way to give to the animals.”

For those interested in making luncheon reservations, call Edie Hubler at 522-0471.

“We’ve got some nice door prizes, a night at The Willcox, a whole estate planning, a framed and signed print of a Labrador, a gift basket with gift certificates to Aiken restaurants, and another gift basket with a number of horse services including riding lessons and body clipping, and a lot of horse-related stuff,” said Welch.

For those wanting to participate in the Hunter Pace, the cost is $40 per rider in advance, and $45 at the gate. The ribbon ceremony will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Riders can download an entry form online at Riders should mail entries to Larry Mitchell at 1522 Huntsman Drive, Aiken SC 29807. All riders must wear American Society for Testing and Materials approved helmets with chin straps, and a Coggins Test is required for all participating horses.
