Newberry 83, Aiken 80


The Hornets (8-2) fell in the championship game of the Newberry Christmas Tournament to the Bulldogs. Shawn Moore had 35 in the loss and Dramel Coleman also contributed 22. Both players also made the all-tournament team.


Aiken will play again on Thursday in the Moody Holiday Classic at Northwestern. The Hornets will take on Fort Mill at 5 p.m.


Lakeside 53, South Aiken 49


South Aiken (3-7) fell to Lakeside in the Aiken County Challenge.


After leading 19-18 at the half, South Aiken suffered through a 14-0 Lakeside run to start the second half before cutting it closer. A pair of 3-pointers by Taijha Turner had the game tied at 49 late, but Lakeside was able to squeak out the win.


Turner had 14 points for the T-Breds, and Jordan Dingle had 12 in the loss.


The Thoroughbreds will play today at noon against Batesburg-Leesville. Lakeside will play against Hepzibah.


GIRLS


Aiken 45, Josey 32


Aiken (9-2) advanced to the finals of the Augusta Roundball Christmas Tournament at Laney (Ga.). The Hornets got 18 points from Erin Gilmore and 11 from Alexis Odom.


Aiken will face off with the host Wildcats in the finals today at 6:30 p.m.


Ridge Spring-Monetta 34, Pelion 30


Ridge Spring-Monetta (4-5, 1-0 Region 4-A) held on to beat Pelion at home. The Lady Trojans got 10 points, four rebounds and four steals from Crystal Preston, and Ebony Hines added in eight points.


RS-M will play again on Wednesday in a tournament at Blackville against Bamberg-Ehrhardt at noon.


Midland Valley wins forfeited game


The Lady Mustangs (2-8) picked up a win in the Orangeburg-Wilkinson Holiday Tournament over Military Magnet, who suffered an injury to one of its five players before the game.
