Wagener-Salley 44, Hephzibah (Ga.) 43


Wagener-Salley (6-5) got a shot to fall at the buzzer to advance into the winners’ side of the Aiken County Challenge.


RJ Tyler led the winning side with 18 points, and Malcolm Stroman added 11.


The War Eagles are scheduled to play host Midland Valley today at 7 p.m., while Hephzibah will play Batesburg-Leesville at 4 p.m.


Strom Thurmond 50, South Aiken 45


South Aiken (3-6) lost by another close margin, this time in the first round of the Aiken County Challenge. Jordan Dingle did his part, scoring 21 points in the loss, and Rock Kirkland chipped in eight.


South Aiken will play Lakeside (Ga.) today at 5:30 p.m., while Strom Thurmond will play Silver Bluff in the winners’ draw at 8:30 p.m.


Silver Bluff 70, Lakeside (Ga.) 50


Silver Bluff (5-4) moved over the .500 mark with a first-round win in the Aiken County Challenge at Midland Valley.


Jaylen Lawrence led the way with 19 points, and Jalen Douse and Donte Wright added 10 each for the Bulldogs.


Aiken 80, Clinton 56


Aiken (8-1) advanced to the championship game of the Newberry Christmas Tournament at Newberry College on the strength of three double-digit scorers.


Dramel Coleman led the Hornets with 16 points, followed by Justin Smith with 15. Shawn Moore rounded out the trio with 12 points in the victory.


Aiken will play the winner between Newberry and Fort Mill at 8 p.m. today for the tournament title.


Schofield MS 49, Aiken 23


Melvin McKie led the way for Schofield with 18 points, and Jordan Lytes had 16.


Kennedy MS 54, AL Corbett 22


Kennedy (7-0) got 10 points from Tancey Richardson to help the Eagles stay undefeated for the year.


Corbett also got a 10-point effort from TreQuan Frazier.


Kennedy will host LBC on Jan. 8.


GIRLS


Aiken 41, Aquinas (Ga.) 10


Aiken (8-2) advanced in the Augusta Roundball Christmas Tournament at Laney (Ga.) with a convincing win. The Hornets got 14 points from Erin Gilmore to lead all scorers, and Jhay Graham added nine points.


Aiken will play against Josey at 6:30 p.m. today in the same event.


Schofield MS 42, Aiken 14


Schofield (6-1) got 18 points from Destiny Williams and eight points from Tedajia Davenport in the win.


Jackson MS 45, New Ellenton 42


Jackson (2-4) picked up a tight win behind a 16-point output by Nadia Clemons.


Iyceiss Drayton added 12 points for Jackson, which will play at Aiken Middle on Jan. 8.


Wednesday


Aiken JV 51, Silver Bluff 17


Tyesha McKevie scored 16 points to lead Aiken in the win, and Asia Johnson added 13 points.


The Hornets will next be in action on Jan. 4 at Westside in Augusta.
