LETTER: God is in our schools
God is in our schools
God has never been removed from our schools. In light of last week’s tragic and heart breaking events, I feel compelled to share this good news. God could never be banned from public school. You cannot keep God out of anywhere.
I work as the guidance counselor at LBC Middle School. Friday morning, we went on lock down due to a burglary in our area. As I walked the halls and checked doors, I was praying. Praying for the safety of our students, teachers and staff.
I pray for our students and teachers all the time. The good news is that there are people in every school that do the same thing. God is not a textbook or a human that can be banned from our buildings. The sad news is that evil cannot be banned either. There is a spiritual battle going on daily for our children. In addition to providing the safest environment possible, we can cover them in prayer.
What most people don’t realize is how much we, as educators, love the children we work with. Was this not evidenced on Friday when teachers, a principal and other adults sacrificed their lives to try and protect the children in their school?
We want only the best for our students and, for me, that means praying for them all the time. You cannot remove prayer from schools any more that you can remove prayer from hospitals, stores or public buildings. I don’t have to keep a Bible on my desk, his word is hidden in my heart. You cannot prevent someone from sharing the unconditional love of Jesus Christ.
You cannot keep Christianity out of our schools. Because, you see, we don’t have to preach it or teach it, we just live it.
