Man arrested, charged in Aiken convenience store murder
Authorities have charged an Aiken man with murder in the shooting death of a Georgia man at an Aiken convenience store last weekend.
Morris Laytrell Dorch, 25, of Edge Road, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and was placed in the Aiken County Detention Center, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting incident at the Lucky 7 convenience store on the corner of Hampton Avenue and Terry Drive around 6:50 p.m. Saturday. There, officers found 21-year-old Delance Terez Walton lying on his side in the front seat of a white Ford Crown Victoria in the parking lot, according to a report by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
Walton was unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene, according to the report. The vehicle had multiple bullet holes in it.
Investigators said the shooting stemmed from a prior argument between Dorch and Walton, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. A second person who was in the victim’s vehicle at the time of the shooting was not injured.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene on foot.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Task Force and the Aiken Department of Public Safety.
