The Aiken High School boys’ basketball team improved its record to 7-1 on the season with a 60-52 win over Saluda in the first round of the Newberry Christmas Tournament played at Newberry College. Both Shawn Moore and Dramel Coleman scored 23 points apiece in Wednesday’s game for the Hornets, who will play again today against the winner of the game between Mid Carolina and Clinton at 6:30 p.m.

Silver Bluff 25
The Aiken High School junior varsity team posted a lopsided win in a game against Silver Bluff. The Hornets (5-2) were led by Devante Gaiters’ nine points, while teammate DJ Kitchens added eight and Machi Provost posted seven more. Silver Bluff was led by Jabren Holley’s eight points. Aiken (5-2) will return to action in the new year, when it plays its next game at Westside (Ga.) on Jan. 4.

Silver Bluff 19
The Silver Bluff High School girls’ basketball team lost its first-round game in the Bobcat Classic played at Lander University, falling to McCormick 45-19. Roxanna Cheek scored four points to lead the Bulldogs (6-3), who will play a second-round game on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
