My Aiken Body Restorative Massage has been selected by Sam's Club to receive a $1,000 gift card to support its operations.
The recognition for the local business is part of the Sam's Club Giving Program, in a collaborative effort with SCORE, to provide more than $500,000 in supplies, training and holiday spirit to 102 U.S. small businesses.
SCORE is a national organization dedicated to helping small businesses grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship.
My Aiken Body was one of only two small businesses in South Carolina selected to receive the recognition.
The honor also includes a two-day special training program for small business owners, compliments of SCORE.
“The access to tools for my business from Sam's Club, and the additional training from SCORE will really help me take my business to the next level,” said Kristen Sojourner, owner of My Aiken Body. “Working with SCORE has provided a foundation to help my business grow. In fact, we are currently expanding and recently opened our second location inside the Village Health and Wellness Center at Woodside Village.”
Local SCORE Counselor Jack St. Clair nominated My Aiken Body Restorative Massage for the recognition award.
St. Clair is one of several counselors affiliated with the Aiken Chapter of SCORE, located at the Greater Aiken Chamber of Commerce.
“She (Sojourner) was so dynamic and so totally into her business that her success was inevitable,” St. Clair said.
Sojourner moved to Aiken from Boulder, Colo., about 18 months ago to be closer to her family and was interested in pursuing a career different from the one she had Boulder. She felt that people in Aiken needed theraputic massage services that aren't necessarily part of a spa. So, she opened My Aiken Body at 109 Laurens St. N.W.
“I look at my business, not just offering a great massage, but as integrating massage therapy into a health-awareness lifestyle,” Sojourner said. “I am feeling hopeful because I am growing. I can see an organization wanting to help that.”
