A 53-year-old woman was detained for shoplifting on Monday after she tried to push a cart containing more than $200 in merchandise out the door of Kroger on Whiskey Road.

A 22-year-old Aiken man was detained for shoplifting on Monday after he hid a pair of jeans under his T-shirt and exited Dillard’s in the Aiken Mall. He later dumped the jeans in a bathroom at the mall, then walked to Publix, where he was arrested.

An Aiken woman flagged down officers on Tuesday and told them her 31-year-old son had tried to set himself on fire in her front yard. The man reportedly has a history of mental illness and told his mother he was trying to hurt himself.

Officers cited a 72-year-old woman for shoplifting after she was caught placing items into her purse at the Dollar General on Jefferson Davis Highway in Clearwater. The woman told officers she was putting the items back on the shelf and that she planned to go get cash to pay for the items.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office responded to an altercation in North Augusta which reportedly began after the victims brought the suspects sandwiches to eat instead of pizza. None of the parties wished to press charges.

A Warrenville woman reported on Monday that someone was using her Social Security number in New York to claim unemployment benefits.

Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Belvedere Road in Beech Island on Monday. No injuries were reported, and fire officials designated the fire as non-suspicious.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office responded to burglaries on Piney Heights Road in Warrenville, Clinton Church Road in Perry, Chaffee Street in Warrenville, Oakwood Drive in Aiken, Fischer Road in Jackson and Storm Branch Leg in Aiken.

Vehicle break-ins were reported to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office on Glenwood Drive in Warrenville, Fairview Road in Clearwater and Wickham Drive in Graniteville.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office received reports of stolen vehicles from Richland Avenue in Aiken and Audubon Circle in North Augusta.

A shoplifting was reported at the Kangaroo on Columbia Highway in Aiken on Monday. An 18-pack of beer was reported missing.
