Officials investigate animal cruelty
The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating a case of alleged animal cruelty in Crosland Park.
According to the report, an individual reported the dogs to Public Safety on Wednesday after he arrived at the Croft Avenue home to do some work for the owner, who hadn’t been seen in several days.
Officers found a pit bull in a cage about 2 feet wide and 3 feet long, the bottom of which was covered in animal waste, according to the report. The cage had no food or water inside of it.
The dog had waste on is feet and stomach, was underweight and appeared to be hungry after it was removed from the cage, according to the report.
The second dog, also a pit bull, was found chained up in the back yard of the home, according to the report. The dog was tangled around a tree, preventing it from reaching its makeshift dog house built from a truck shell. There were no food or water bowls present.
The dogs were taken to the Aiken SPCA. No charges have been filed.
