Service technicians at the Jiffy Lube on Pine Log Road compete today to be named the best maintenance team in the region.
Judges are visiting the location to watch the team, called the Aiken Thrashers, as they perform a regular service check – including an oil change – on a car.
The team must satisfactorily hit 100 check points – from checking the vehicle’s transmission fluid to vacuuming the interior – to move on to the next round of competition.
The Aiken Thrashers is one of six teams out of nearly 1,500 nationwide to advance to the semi-finals in this year’s J-Team All Stars competition.
Hosted annually by Jiffy Lube International, Jiffy Lube service center employees showcase their skills in all aspects for the chance to claim the championship and a $10,000 team grand prize.
If they are named the top team from the East Division after today’s judging, they will move on as finalists in the J-Team All Stars competition in Miami for the chance to be crowned the national champions.
The team ran several exercises Wednesday to practice for today’s judging.
“They actually aced everything,” said Brian Dean, vice president of operations for AFML, the franchise that owns and operates the Pine Log Road service center. “The main goal of all of this is to give the customer a good experience.”
The team completed the service check in 4 minutes, 49 seconds.
“We treat every customer’s car like it’s our own,” said team leader Anthony Rolling. “Every team member plays their part. The judging is not too intimidating for me now because I’ve been through it before. But, I’ve never been to Miami. I want to go to win.”
In addition to Rolling, team members are Donnie Powell, Matt Howell, Mike Garnett and Chuck Noe.
“We take training very seriously, and this J-Team is ready to showcase the skills they offer Aiken-area drivers daily on a national stage. I couldn’t be prouder,” said Joel LaMothe of AFML.
