Scrapple

I am wondering where in Aiken I can find scrapple similar to what I used to find in Pennsylvania. It is wonderful for breakfast with eggs. It is a mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and wheat flour. Scrapple is commonly considered an ethnic food of the Pennsylvania Dutch, including the Mennonites and Amish. If anyone knows, please send in a TalkBack, as I am anxious to find it here.

Ten years from now

From 2000 to 2009, every school day, I traveled from College Acres, near Chukker Creek Elementary, to near Aiken Technical College. Using the bypass, in the morning, the trip started as being 18 minutes long. After nine years, the trip was 23 minutes long. The issue is not how much traffic is on the bypass today, but in another 10 years, how much traffic will be on the bypass?

Traffic flow

As far as the 118 bypass widening, it’s all about traffic flow. I’m sure we’ve all experienced slow traffic on what is called a bypass. The word bypass means you are avoiding slow traffic as a convenience through downtown obstacles. Traffic lights already on the bypass are annoying and seem to benefit only people living in the vicinity of these lights. Fifteen to 20 cars will stop to let one car come out of a side street. The people that built houses along bypass must have known it would eventually be widened. I’m sure the DOT is being fair with their compensation offers. Let progress proceed, let the bypass be a bypass.

Same families

Did you ever notice it’s the same families that show up year after year for the free meals and the free toys and the giveaways?
