Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s Brother Bird won the 1 1/16-mile $100,000 Iron Horse Stakes during the Claiming Crown Series Saturday at Gulfstream Park. Brother Bird had drawn the extreme outside post in the field of 12 starters, and determinedly dug in during the final furlong to run down Jazzit and win by 3/4-length.
The 5-year-old gelded son of Yonaguska, a half-brother to the 2009 Kentucky Derby winnerMine That Bird and to multiple Grade 1 winner Dullahan, is conditioned by Mike Maker and was ridden to victory by Joel Rosario.
Legacy Stable’s Brad Stauffer and Ron Stevens trained Brother Bird in Aiken. The dark bay gelding increased his lifetime bankroll to $234,175.
Brenda K. Selwyn Waxman’s Mount Brew made it consecutive victories by winning a 1 1/16-mile race over the Polytrack surface at Woodbine on Friday by 2 1/4-lengths. It was the bay colt’s second win in 13 days. The son of multiple Grade 1 winner Milwaukee Brew was bred by Adena Springs, and is conditioned by Mike Keogh.
Darley Stable’s Delightful Quality placed 3rd in the 27th running of the 6-furlong Garland of Roses Stakes Saturday at Aqueduct. The daughter of Elusive Quality was broken and trained in Aiken by Tim Jones.
