The Wagener-Salley High School boys’ basketball team got a balanced scoring effort in a 65-56 win over rival Gilbert Friday. The War Eagles were led by junior forward RJ Tyler, who scored 17 points. Just behind was junior point guard Malcolm Stroman with 16 points. Duane Davenport chipped in with 12 while teammate Gregg Hicks added 10 for Wagener-Salley, which improved to 2-0 on the season.
The War Eagles won their opener on Thursday, thrashing Pelion 84-59. Tyler and Davenport tied for top scoring honors in that game, posting 15 points apiece. Trey Davis and Gerald Landy also were major contributors with a dozen each.
Wagener-Salley will return to action on Monday at Bamberg-Ehrhardt.
