Albert 'Al' Purvis Jr.
Langley, S.C. – Mr. Albert “Al” Purvis, Jr., 82, of Langley, SC, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Mary Padgett Purvis, entered into rest on Thursday, November 22nd, 2012. Born in Trenton, FL, and a resident of Aiken County, SC, most of his life, he was a son of the late James Albert, Sr. and Merle Kirkland Purvis. A Korean War Veteran, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, where he kept the yards for many years and served as Greeter at the Sunday morning Mass. He retired from the Clearwater Finishing Plant. He enjoyed fishing. In addition to his wife and parents, family members include daughters, Jean Gunter, (Martin) Aiken, SC, Pat Holton, (Rick) Aiken, SC and Sherry Lee, (Tim) Martinez, GA; son, Bennie Purvis, (Cindy) Wilmington, NC; brother, Franklin L. Purvis, Pawtucket, RI, ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his four legged daughter, Cecilie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on (today) Saturday, November 24th, 2012, at 2 o'clock at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Gloverville, SC, with The Reverend Peter Clarke celebrant. Interment with Veterans Honors accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow in Langley Cemetery, Langley, SC. Pallbearers will be grandsons. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Al be made to Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, P.O. 358 Gloverville, SC 29828. Friends will be greeted by the family (today) on Saturday, November 24th, 2012, from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, SC.
