Salley’s 47th annual Chitlin’ Strut will offer a variety of events today at 230 Pine St. in Salley.

Events consist of helicopter rides and carnival rides start at 9 a.m., the Chitlin’ Strut Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Main Street, a performance by the Root Doctors and Santa Claus pictures start at 11 a.m., a Car and Bike Show and a Hog Calling Contest starts at 3 p.m. and a Strut Contest from 3:30 to 4 p.m. will end the day.

Although this is an annual event, it has changed over the years. Helicopter rides, an idol contest, which was held on Friday, and pictures with Santa Claus are all new to the festival this year.

The sponsors that made some of these events possible are SCE&G, Security Federal Bank, Aiken County Council, Aiken Electric Cooperative and Sims Recycling Solutions.

This festival does include many rides and events, but is not complete without tradition chitlin’ plates, which will be served fried or boiled from the Cooking Building for $10 a plate beginning at 8 a.m. and continuing throughout the duration of the festival. There will also be a pancake breakfast at the Dean Swamp Masonic Lodge from 7 to 10 a.m.

There will also be some activities including carnival, concession stands and arts and crafts.

Today’s weather is expected to be clear all day with a high of 57.
