Better Lucky hopes to live up to name in Matriarch
Godolphin Racing’s graded stakes winner Better Lucky is among the entries in the Matriarch Stakes Sunday at Hollywood Park. The 3-year-old daughter of the 2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper, will break from post position no. 4, is 15/1 on the morning-line, and will carry 120 pounds in the 1-mile turf race. Jockey Eddie Castro gets the return call. Better Lucky is out of the Grade 2 winning mare Sahara Gold, and is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Sahara Heat. Better Lucky is conditioned by Tom Albertrani, and was broken and trained in Aiken by Tim Jones.
The filly won at first asking during her juvenile campaign. Better Lucky became a stakes winner as a 3-year-old, winning the 1 1/16-mile Grade 2 Sands Point over a turf course listed as firm at Belmont Park on May 28. Jockey Eddie Castro has the return call. Better Lucky finished 3rd in her previous start the 1 1/8-mile Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes at Keeneland 6 weeks ago, and will be making the 8th start of her sophomore campaign.
The bay filly has 3 wins, placed second once and finished third twice, en route to earning $288,950.
