Godolphin Racing’s Buffum hopes to keep the momentum going after scoring his last time out in the Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap as the Tom Albertrani charge is entered in Saturday’s $350,000 Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct. The bay colt was broken and trained in Aiken by Tim Jones.
The 4-year-old son of Bernardini turned in an impressive effort on Oct. 27 at Belmont Park with his win in the 7-furlong Bold Ruler, and the half-brother of graded stakes winner Stormy West and graded stakes placed Renaissance Lady has three wins at the Cigar Mile Handicap distance.
Buffum drew post position no. 3, will carry 118 pounds, and is 6/1 on the morning line. Jockey Eddie Castro gets the return call. Buffum last worked Nov. 18 at the Belmont Park Training Track, breezing 5-furlongs in 1:02.
Buffum is out of the multiple stakes winning mare Storm Beauty, and was purchased by John Ferguson, agent for $1.2 million at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga August Yearling Sale from the consignment of Eaton Sales, agent. Buffum has 4 wins and 1 second from 9 starts, and has bankrolled $241,800.
The other Godolphin Racing runner who will be competing in Grade 1 company Saturday at Aqueduct is stakes winner Dance Card, a gray filly who has won her last 3 starts including an impressive 7 1/2-length score in the 1 1/16-mile Belle Cherie Stakes on Sept. 23 at Belmont Park. The daughter of Grade 1 winner Tapit is the 9/5 morning-line favorite in the $350,000 1 1/8-mile Grade 1 Gazelle Stakes. The 3-year-old daughter of the multiple stakes placed mare Tempting Note is conditioned by Kiaran McLaughlin. A full-sister to multiple graded stakes placed Tempted to Tapit, who was also broken and trained in Aiken, Dance Card will break from post position no. 2, and will have 2-time Eclipse Award winning Jockey Ramon Dominguez in the irons. The filly last worked Nov. 19, breezing a half-mile in 49 seconds at the Belmont Park Training Track. Dance Card has 3 wins and 1 second from 4 starts, and has earned $162,200.
