Joyful Victory draws rail in Falls City
Rick Porterís Fox Hill Farmís multiple graded stakes winner Joyful Victory returns today in the 1 1/8-mile Grade 2 $150,000 Falls City Handicap at Churchill Downs. The 4-year-old daughter of Grade 1 winner Tapit drew the rail, and is the co-second choice on the morning-line at odds of 3/1. Jockey Robby Albarado is in the irons on the Larry Jones charge.
Joyful Victory was broken and trained by Tim and Cary Frommer, and was consigned by Cary Frommer agent to the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Calder Select Two-year-Olds in Training Sale on March 2, 2010. The filly was purchased by Tom McGreevy as agent for $400,000. Joyful Victory worked Sunday, breezing 3-furlongs in 35 1/5 seconds at Churchill Downs. The gray filly will carry 119 pounds in the Falls City Handicap.
A 3-time stakes winner, Joyful Victory scored consecutive wins during her sophomore campaign, winning in dominating Fashion as she took the Grade 3 Honeybee authoratatively by 8 3/4-lengths, and then won the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes by daylight drawing away to a commanding 7-length score.
Joyful Victory won the Tiffany Lass Stakes this winter at the Fair Grounds, and was second her last time out in the Grade 2 Chilukki Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 3. Joyful Victory has 4 wins, 5 seconds and 2 thirds from 14 lifetime starts, and has bankrolled $657,159.
