Goose Creek kicked out of football playoffs again

MONCKS CORNER (AP) — Goose Creek High School has been kicked out of the football playoffs again.

The South Carolina High School League voted Monday to uphold an earlier ruling that the team used an ineligible player.

A judge on Friday ordered the league to reconsider the case, allowing Goose Creek to play. The Gators beat Bluffton.

The High School League’s latest decision means Bluffton will now play Northwestern in Friday’s Class AAAA Division II semifinals later this week.

Lawyers for Goose Creek High School told the High School League that they thought the player was eligible to play all along. They also asked for mercy, saying the player had special needs and football helped him deal with problems in his life.
