Man detains suspect in vehicle break-in

A juvenile was detained for breaking and entering a motor vehicle after the owner of the vehicle chased him and detained him until authorities arrived on scene, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim told police he was awoken around 1:20 a.m. by his wife, who told him someone was in their car outside, according to a report. When they went outside the home, the two subjects got out of the car and ran.

The victim chased after and caught one of the subjects and escorted him back to his home to wait for sheriff’s deputies to arrive, according to the report.

The report listed the identity of the second suspect but does not indicate if he had been arrested.

Officers respond to call of kids left in car

Aiken Public Safety officers responded to Aiken Middle School on Tuesday after a woman reportedly left her children in her car while attending a Veterans Day presentation, according to a public safety report.

A woman told police she waited with the children about 15 minutes before officers arrived on the scene. One of the children told her their mother left them in the vehicle with the car running while she went to a Veterans Day presentation in the school.

The mother told police she thought it was OK to leave the children in the vehicle, and that the 9-year-old was “mature for her age,” according to the report.

The report did not indicate if any charges were filed.
